No matter how tough the day has been, there are so many stages in my life that I want to savor and not forget. I am constantly reminded how quick 18 years can pass and each step of the way, our children will need us less and less. This morning, I walked around my nicely swept kitchen and rounded the bar to where our son had prepared a bowl of Cheerios. When I sat down, my socks had Cheerios clinging to them. Usually, it is my midsection food hangs on to but now it is my socks. One day my house will be tidy and Cheerio free. I took the above picture this summer when the neighborhood boys came inside to play. I don't want to forget the young feet that have felt welcomed and safe in our home. Nor do I want to forget how Lydia's pink shoes fit into the pile. I don't want to forget the piles of bibs that come out of a load of Miss Blake's laundry. I usually have to wash just to keep her in bibs. I treasure the memory of crawling into bed one night and My Dear's feet bein...
God's calling for me to come on this trip was through children! I wanted to spend everyday at the orphanages. Today was the day to go to the one I wanted to visit most. My training is in special education. I was eager to play - therapeutically - with some dark skinned, dark eyed darlins '! My "preschool whisper" friend Fay was also armed and ready! We brought balloons, beach balls and bubbles! Oh, yeah we brought rag dolls, blankies , and stuffed cars that a lady of our church made and toothbrushes and paste that another sent. I took a picture of my suitcase filled with goodies but did not bring my computer so pictures will have to wait until the states. Most folks are unsure in such a setting. The kids look different and their medical needs can be intimidating . I was eager to get on the floor and play! Some of them had shaved heads probably due to lice. The center was very clean, the workers were kind and loving and seemed very dedicated to their jobs. T...
WOW! Valentine's Day is almost here! Just wanted to let you know of something I will be doing for our big kids for the holiday, an idea I got from the book, God's Roap Map for Moms. Our kids love the little things so this will be right up there alley! Beginning on Monday before Valentine's Day I will leave little "love notes/gifts" for them. Our daugher's with have a purple heart on it and our son's will have a red heart so there is no confusion-nor do I expect there to be because the gifts are specific to them. MONDAY : Before bathime, one child will find bubbles on the side of the bathtub and the other will find his own shower gel. Miss Blake may get a new bottle of lotion. I know it sounds simple but these are things they have mentioned. TUESDAY : Their grandmother recently bought them each a pack of gum and they ate it up in no time. I will place a pack of gum under each of their pillows one morning while they are eating breakfast for them to be found...
